High Wind Warning issued February 8 at 4:06PM AKST until February 10 at 12:00PM AKST by NWS Anchorage AK
AREAS AFFECTED: Central Aleutians
DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...Southeast to southwest winds 45 to 60 mph, with gusts up to 75 to 85 mph. * WHERE...Central Aleutians, including Adak and Atka. * WHEN...Until noon AKST Tuesday. * IMPACTS...High winds could move loose debris, damage property, and cause power outages. Travel could be difficult. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A second storm moving into the Bering Sea from the North Pacific late Monday into Tuesday brings another period of long duration strong winds. The strongest winds are expected from Monday night through Tuesday morning before slowly diminishing.
INSTRUCTION: People are urged to secure loose objects that could be blown around or damaged by the wind. Prepare for the possibility of widespread power outages. Use caution if you must drive.

Altostratus clouds form at mid to high-level altitudes
(between 2 and 7 km) and are created by a warm, stable air mass which causes
water vapor
to condense as it rise through the atmosphere. Usually altostratus clouds are
featureless sheets characterized by a uniform color.
In some cases, wind punching through the cloud formation may give it a waved
appearance, called altostratus undulatus. Altostratus clouds
are commonly seen with other cloud formations accompanying them.

Cirrostratus clouds are high, thin clouds that form above
20,000 feet and are made mostly of ice crystals. They sometimes look like giant
feathers, horse tails, or curls of hair in the sky.
These clouds are pushed by the jet stream and can move at high speeds reaching
100 mph.
What do they indicate?
They indicate that a precipitation is likely within 24 hours.
