DESCRIPTION: ...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FOR NIIHAU AND KAUAI FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING... * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Niihau and Kauai. * WHEN...From 3 PM HST this afternoon through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Flood prone roads and other low lying areas may be closed due to elevated runoff and overflowing streams. Urban areas may receive more significant flooding and property damage due to rapid runoff. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - As moisture filters over the state from both the east and the west and an upper level disturbance moves overhead, conditions will be favorable for producing heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms, particularly over the western end of the state late today into early Saturday. Kauai has the greatest potential for flash flooding during this period.
INSTRUCTION: You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

Altostratus clouds form at mid to high-level altitudes
(between 2 and 7 km) and are created by a warm, stable air mass which causes
water vapor
to condense as it rise through the atmosphere. Usually altostratus clouds are
featureless sheets characterized by a uniform color.
In some cases, wind punching through the cloud formation may give it a waved
appearance, called altostratus undulatus. Altostratus clouds
are commonly seen with other cloud formations accompanying them.

Cirrostratus clouds are high, thin clouds that form above
20,000 feet and are made mostly of ice crystals. They sometimes look like giant
feathers, horse tails, or curls of hair in the sky.
These clouds are pushed by the jet stream and can move at high speeds reaching
100 mph.
What do they indicate?
They indicate that a precipitation is likely within 24 hours.
